Dealing With On The Job Injuries
When you have been injured on the job, your first step is to notify your employer immediately, regardless of the circumstances or the severity of your injuries. Seek medical care as soon as possible and follow all of your doctor’s instructions. Your employer will notify the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC), and you may be contacted by either your employer or the IWCC for additional information on the accident or the injuries you suffered. Workers’ compensation pays for your medical expenses, including transportation to and from doctor appointments, as well as reimburse you for any lost wages and any temporary or permanent disabilities you have suffered. If your claim is accepted, you should begin receiving benefits for lost wages within 30 days. If your claim is rejected, you will be notified in writing, and have the right to a hearing and to file an appeal. Throughout this entire process, you have the right to have an attorney represent you in your claim.
